Christmas Party FAQs

Lunchtime or evening?

Having your Christmas party at lunchtime or an evening thing both work brilliantly depending on what works for your company and the kind of tone you want to go for. Think about the lighting, decoration and activities you want as well as food.

“There are always more options than a sit-down dinner. Bowl food, buffet and canape receptions are an underrated, relaxed and a more cost-effective option for those that don't have the space, budget or want a more informal vibe to their party”, says our catering partner arch.

Which day of the week?

Looking to Christmas 2024, there are a few key dates. Wednesday and Thursday are increasingly popular days for Christmas parties. With more people working from home, considering a day earlier in the week when people would be in the office works well. Dates from the last week of November until the 19th of December are the best time to host your Christmas party.

What should I do for entertainment?

You want to keep things fun and light. Having a live band or DJ always goes down well and guests always love the Christmas hits. You could host karaoke too. You may like to have some activities too but nothing too complicated. A quiz or some classic games can be great. The key is a well-stocked bar and some good music.

Should there be a theme?

A theme for your Christmas party can “create an interesting backdrop to the decorations and can help to make the entire event to come across as unique and special”, says Florist Elizabeth Marsh. Having a theme for your Chrismas party has long been popular. From a 1920s speakeasy to a ‘night at the circus’ or to 80s with a game arcade, the theme of your party can add a new dimension and a lot of fun. Still, it is not essential. Opting for a more traditional setting also works bringing all the Christmas feels with either a black tie dress code or going to other direction with Christmas jumpers. Whatever you decide, the key is to communicate clearly with your guests so they know what to expect.
